#1 Jaime Nuanez |
|
Jaime Nuanez is the youngest of three Nuanez brothers that play on the PrimeTime Fastpitch team. Jaime is 30 years old and married his long time fiancée Norma on October 21, 2006! Congratulations Jaime and Norma!!!!
Jaime, like his older brothers, grew up around the game of baseball and Fastpitch softball. He also had the opportunity of having our dad, Jerry, as his coach throughout his youth baseball career. Unlike his older brothers, he also had the opportunity if having our dad as one of his High School coaches, where he graduated (like the rest of us, from Oceanside High School, home of the PIRATES)!
After high school, Jaime moved onto Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, CA where he also played on the baseball team. Although he was slated to be the backup SS, Jaime quickly gained the admiration of his head coach when he volunteered to pitch after several of the pitchers fell to injuries. Jaime performed well as a pitcher, even being noticed by some scouts who complimented him after several games. However, one of Jaime’s downfalls is his physical size, barely 5’8” on his tip toes - he was considered too short by many scouts.
Jaime, being the youngest in a family of Fastpitch softball players, got an early start in the game, regularly playing on our family team, the Sox in the Oceanside, CA. Vista, CA and San Clemente, CA leagues.
In 2000, Jaime had the opportunity to go to the ISC World tournament in St. Joseph, MO with Clyde Bennet and the San Luis Obispo, CA Bucks. Jaime played SS for Clyde after his regular SS injured himself just before the tournament. I remember getting a call from Jaime where he informed me that Clyde had invited him to go to “some sort of National Tournament”. After he explained to me where and when the tournament took place, I asked him “are you sure you are NOT talking about the World Tournament?” I then explained to him what and who this tournament consisted of (the best teams in the World) and I think he then was a little overwhelmed. However, you would not be able to tell by his 3-for-5, .600 batting average in his first ever ISC World Tournament.
Jaime is a very versatile player as he can play any of the Infield/Outfield positions and can even catch in a pinch, if needed. However, Jaime has primarily supported our team as an outfielder where he has the opportunity to show off his powerful arm - too powerful in some circumstances, if you know what I mean. Jaime also provides a very steady bat in the line up as he rarely strikes out and he is one of our faster runners.
I know that at times Jaime gets frustrated by the competitiveness of his two older brothers, especially when he makes a mistake and we point it out, but that is what big brothers do!!! |
