#99 Johnny Nuanez

Johnny Nuanez, is 40 (ouch it hurts to say that) and have been married to my wife, Susie, for almost 10 years.  We have three children:  Marco (7), Jiovana (5) and Armando (3).  Susie is REALLY understanding of her husband’s love of softball, and when hectic family schedules allow it, usually can be seen training the kids to chant “GO PrimeTime!”

I have played baseball and now softball my entire life.  My dad even doctored my birth certificate so that I could play baseball a year earlier than little league allowed.  My brothers and I have grown up around baseball and fastpitch softball.  Our dad, Jerry, used to play back in the 1970’s in the highly competitive Oceanside leagues.  We used to tag along with my mom to my dad’s tournaments and now it is our turn to drag our families to our tournaments.  Actually, I love having my brothers, sister-in-law Marcy, sister-in-law Norma, my nieces and nephews, my kids, my parents, my cousin Michael and soon to be cousin-in-law Morgan (phew, that was a mouthful!) all together when we play softball as we make it a “Family Affair”.  Not to mention how my mom, Stella, has saved us a few times by keeping the book!

I have had the opportunity to meet many great people during my softball career and I have had the opportunity to travel to places I probably would not otherwise go to, just to play softball.  Places like Washington, Canada, Arizona, New York, Florida, North Dakota, Texas (3 times), Nebraska (twice), as well as several other places just throughout the state of California.

Although I manage the team, I also play.  My primary position used to be 2nd base, however as I have gotten older, my range isn’t what it used to be.  Currently, I help out wherever I am needed, whether it be back at 2nd base, 1st base, Outfield, or God forbid, PITCHER!  Jay just loves when I pitch as he enjoys those hot smashes down 3rd base line.

As a manager, I am quite calm and rarely challenge an umpire’s decision.  In the rare occasion where I might challenge an umpire’s decision, I rarely use any profanity when dealing with the umpires.  I guess you could say that I am the “role model” manager!  Right, guys?  Yeah, yeah -whatever!
